Description: 
This grant category is for Santa Barbara County teachers who are interested in carrying out environmental service projects with their classes. Teachers may apply to complete projects within the following subject areas: energy conservation, reducing air pollution, water supply and conservation, and recycling.

Grants funds may be used for: field trips, guest speakers, project supplies, equipment or devices for conserving energy or water, science experiments, displays, artwork, etc.

Additional funds may also be available to support a school-wide education program/assembly on water education. Please contact Teacher Programs for details (805) 964-4711 ext. 5277.

Who is eligible? 
Any Santa Barbara County public school teacher or non-management certificated employee in grades Pre-K to12 in any subject area or specialization may apply for the Care for Our Earth Grants.

How are grants selected? 
Grant applications are read and selected by a committee of SBCEO administrators and business and community partners. Annual funding levels determine the number of grants awarded each year.

Grant writing tips: 
The selection committee is looking for polished project proposals that provide a detailed explanation of the project and description of how the grant funds will be spent.

When will I hear if my application was selected? 
Notifications will be made approximately two weeks after the deadline.

Care for Our Earth Grant recipients will:

  • Be recognized at the Education Celebration event in the spring.
  • May be asked to prepare a display of their projects to be presented at the Education Celebration and future events.
  • Projects will be highlighted and digitally shared with other educators to encourage the dissemination of quality instructional practices.
