Greetings New and Returning Adams Parents!

I hope this letter finds you well and enjoying your summer! This letter contains a number of important upcoming events I’d like you to know about as you prepare for the 2014-2015 school year as well as our school calendar, Adams Tigerwear packages and school schedule.

“Kindergarten ABC’s for Parents” – Monday, August 25th
Every incoming Transitional Kindergarten and Kindergarten parent is invited to join our PTA vice-president, Tiger Parent Allison Bell, as she leads a conversation around the following topics on Monday, August 25th from 7:00 to 8:30pm in the Adams auditorium:

*Drop-off/Pick-up and after school programs and enrichment opportunities
*School Communication - Principals Coffees, ParentSquare, Tigerfolders (class/school flyers), student information packet and more
*School Calendar - upcoming events, online calendar
*Early release for Kindergarten and weekly on Wednesdays
*Supporting your student in the classroom and at home
*Healthy Campus - sugar free policy, healthy snacks and the Adams running program
*PTA - volunteer opportunities, fundraisers, programs/events
*School Spirit - Tigerwear Packages, Tigerwear/College Fridays, Tigerwear breakfast and evening events
*Earn Extra Money for our school - BoxTops, bar wrappers, drink pouches, Labels for Education

Incoming Transitional Kindergarten/Kindergarten – Tuesday, August 26th
I look forward to meeting our incoming Kindergarten parents and students on Tuesday, August 26th from 2-3:00pm. During this time, all Transitional Kindergarten/Kindergarten students will get an opportunity to see their new classroom and meet their teacher. Please arrive at 1:45pm to view your child’s class placement and assigned teacher for the 2014-2015 school year posted outside the front office. Our Kindergarten teachers are very excited to meet your child!

School Year’s Eve – Tuesday, August 26th
Our fabulous PTA is sponsoring our 6th Annual School Year’s Eve event on Tuesday, August 26th from 3-4pm for all TK-6th grade students and families – Enjoy a cold Popsicle while you discover who your child’s teacher will be. The class rosters and room assignments will be posted outside the school office. Tiger parents will be there with Tigerwear, Afterschool Enrichment registration, and volunteer opportunities.

Parent Outreach – Tuesday, August 26th
It’s our goal to reach every family in need and offer support through community resources. Therefore, a support team will be available for families on Tuesday, August 26th from 2:30-4:00pm outside of our front office. The support team consists of our Family Advocate, Eduardo Cortez, who will be here to connect families with clothing, food and counseling. Claudia, our school secretary, will be distributing and collecting applications for free/reduced lunch (All students have the opportunity to eat breakfast for FREE either before school or at morning recess). We have a representative from Calfresh coming to support families who are in need of food and health insurance. Lastly, we have representatives from our afterschool programs to support families with afterschool childcare (A-OK, Child Development and City Parks and Recreation).

First Day of School – Wednesday, August 27th
Our first day of school is Wednesday, August 27th. School begins promptly at 8:30am for all students. The school day ends at 2:10pm for TK/Kindergarten, 2:43pm for 1st-3rd grade and 3:10pm for 4-6th grade, except Wednesday. Every Wednesday is early dismissal for all students, 1:10pm dismissal.

**Please note Transitional Kindergarten and Kindergarten are dismissed at 12:10pm the first 3 ½ weeks of school for Parent/Child-Teacher Conferences and Student Assessments. Please reserve an assessment time with your child’s teacher the first week of school.

Principal’s Coffee – Wednesday, August 27th
Everyone is invited to my first informal principal’s coffee Wednesday, August 27th at 8:30am in the auditorium. This is a great opportunity for you to meet new families and to get involved with the numerous Tiger Parent committees. Coffee and light breakfast items will be provided.

Back to School Night – Tuesday, September 2nd
All students and families are formally invited to attend our annual mandatory Back to School Night on Tuesday, September 2nd beginning at 5:00pm. Our Tiger Parent PTA will have food trucks available for families to purchase dinner, along with many other booths with school information. I will introduce this year’s staff and share how we striving to align our practices that give all of our children every opportunity to be successful each and every day by establishing a community that is build around collaboration and trust.

My presentation will be followed by a visit to your child’s classroom(s) with every teacher presenting their yearlong plans and goals for your child. We will again have students from San Marcos supporting our teachers with translation. If for some reason you are unable to attend this mandatory event, please contact the office to set up an appointment to meet with me in order to keep you well informed.
