This Week by Principal Amy Alzina
We need your help with helping Adams students that don’t have a costume to wear on Halloween by donating your gently used costumes that you no longer use or need. New costumes also welcome. Please bring costume donations to the office by Thursday, Oct. 23rd. If you child is in need of a costume please contact the office and we will be sure they have a costume.
October 31st is a minimum day (12:00pm dismissal) for all students. Students are allowed to wear their costumes to school. There will be a Kindergarten and 1st grade parade in the morning on the playground. I ask the healthy snacks be submitted for school activies as we all know children will be getting plenty of candy that night. Thank you for your support!
Adams 3rd Grade iPad Distribution
All of our third grade students will be getting their iPads on October 28th and 29th. It is imperative that the front office has every parents email address before the event as it is needed to set up an apple ID. Ernestina is available to help any family who needs assistance setting up an email account.
Cox Internet for a Reduced Price! Does your student need Internet for school? How do you help keep your child safe online? Do you need Internet or Wireless? Then, we need you to attend a very important meeting on October 1st from 5:30-6:30pm in our auditorium.
Disabilities Awareness Day
Friday, October 17th is our annual Disabilities Awareness Day at Adams. The day aims to raise awareness to the voluntary, statutory and private services available to enable people to be independent. I will be leading by example by explaining and showing the children how I need my reading classes to help me be a better reader. We will conclude the day’s events with a dance party in the auditorium that will be conducted by a DJ with a physical disability. A special thank you to our Special Education department for coordinating the days events.
Common Core State Standards
The SBUSD has created a parent information booklet that explains the “Why” behind the Common Core State Standards. Every student will be receiving a booklet in his/her Thursday folder. Please be sure to look for it.
“An Apple a Day Keeps the Doctor Away”
We will be celebrating national Food Day on Friday, October 24th at the 8:30am flag salute by distributing apples to every student and then conducting a count down where we all will take a bite at the same time. A BIG Thank you to Jennifer Hale, Adams parent, for coordinating our Food Day celebration.
AVID and EDU Parent Night
Adams 5th and 6th grade teachers will be conducting a second AVID and EDU parent training on Thursday, October 23rd from 5:30-6:30pm. Our teachers will discuss how to support student academic contracts, WICOR strategies, AVID agendas and how to help your student succeed. Parents are encouraged to attend the training with their child for an overview of how to have a successful family partnership at Adams.
